Large Truck Shop Success Story

Once you have the data the decision becomes easy

The Case

This large truck shop had been running a 50hp Quincy compressor for many years until they started experiencing recurring problems. They decided it was time to replace the compressor with something more reliable. The customer was confident they needed a 50hp compressor based on the size of their facility, but we strongly recommended an Air Demand Analysis.

The Numbers Never Lie

Once we completed the Air Demand Analysis, we found that the customer's compressor was modulating heavily and was very oversized. We determined that the customer's average demand was only 35 CFM, with a peak demand of 126 CFM. The calculated specific power consumption was 85.75 kW/100 CFM, whereas ideally, you want that number to be below 20.

The Solution

We installed two new Kaeser SK 15 Aircenters with an additional 400 gallons of storage capacity. We also installed high-pressure kits on the Kaeser SK 15s to increase the maximum pressure to 160 psi. This allowed us to fully realize the benefits of the storage by storing air at a high pressure and then regulating the system pressure to only what the customer required. This resulted in an estimated $7,900 per year reduction in power costs and a much more reliable compressed air system.
